Famous Locations from the Harry Potter Movies

Intrigued with the locations that used for filming the Harry Potter movie? See the following article!

Hogwarts Castle Universal Studios Orlando

On Set: Harry Potter

If you've ever wanted to visit the famous locales used in the Harry Potter film franchise, you're in luck! Check out some of the most popular sites in England and Scotland that are open to the public (well, almost all of them).
The replica of Hogwarts Castle at Universal Orlando didn't make the cut...but I'd absolutely go see it even if it isn't technically real! Have you seen any of these places? What other Harry Potter locales would you like to see if you could?

Glennfinnan Viaduct Harry Potter films
Glenfinnan Viaduct
While it's no longer part of the British Rail system, the Glenfinnan Viaduct is part of the Fort William to Mallaig railway in Scotland. You probably recognize it as the viaduct that the Hogwarts Express is frequently crossing on its way to the school.

The cloisters at Gloucester Cathedral were used in the hallway scenes in Harry Potter movies.
A Hall in Hogwarts - Gloucester Cathedral
Many of the cloister in Gloucester Cathedral were used for the hallway scenes in the Harry Potter movies.
This particular section of the cathedral was used when Harry and Ron find their way to the Chamber of Secrets.

Platform 9 3/4 King's Cross station

Platform 9 3/4

Located in King's Cross Station, Platform 9 3/4 serves as the gate way between the Muggle train station in London and the Hogwarts Express. The scenes were actually filmed in the main part of the station between platforms 4 and 5, which were renumbered to 9 and 10.
Harry Potter fans and tourists to the train station don't seem to mind the discrepancy, as thousands of people have had their pictures taken pretending to push the trolley through to the fictional platform (I certainly did, anyway).

Bodleian Library, Oxford, England

Hogwarts Library - Duke Humfrey's Library, Bodleian Library

It may not be as recognizable without resident bookworm Hermione Granger camping out at the tables, but with its large collection of old tomes and dark woodwork, Duke Humfrey's Library in the Bodleian Library at Oxford served as the perfect setting for Hogwarts Library.
Sadly, it's only open to visitors as part of a private tour; you can't just wander in. They're probably just trying to keep people out of the Restricted Section.

Alnwick Castle used as part of Hogwarts in the Harry Potter movies

Hogwarts - Alnwick Castle

Located in Alnwick, Northumberland, just a stone's throw from the Scottish border, Alnwick Castle was featured in the flying lesson scene and many of the Quidditch scenes in the Harry Potter films.
Built after the Norman conquest, it has been owned by the Percy family since the 1300s. George Dominic Percy is first in line to assume ownership of the castle, and is also rumored to be dating Pippa Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge's younger sister.

Hagrid's Hut Glencoe

Hagrid's Hut - Glencoe, Scottish Highlands

While Hagrid's Hunt doesn't actually exist, the setting for our favorite giant's home is actually in Glencoe in the Scottish Highlands.
The area is also the site of a historic massacre, and has been used in many other films.

The Great Hall - Christ Church College, Oxford

Want to have dinner in the Great Hall at Hogwarts? You can! If you're a student at Christ Church College at Oxford.
The dining hall and the entrance to the dining hall were used in the Harry Potter films, and they're also open to the public year-round except for Christmas Day.

Diagon Alley - Leadenhall Market

Leadenhall Market is a covered market in the heart of London, just off Gracechurch Street, that dates back to the 14th century. It sits in the center of what used to be Roman London.
The market was used as the area near The Leaky Cauldron in Diagon Alley. It is open weekdays from 7a.m. and primarily houses fresh food vendors.

Gringott's Bank - Australia House, London

Located on the Strand in London, the fine-marble interior of the Australia House was perfect for the prestige and opulence of Gringott's Bank.
Australia House, which is the headquarters of the High Commission of Australia, is just as exclusive as its wizard bank counterpart. It's never open to the public apart from one day a year when it offers an open house.

The Forbidden Forest - Black Park, Iver, Buckinghamshire

Sure, it looks pretty and welcoming in the photo, but Black Park in Buckinghamshire, England, was the dark and frightening Forbidden Forest. Its prime location next to Pinewood Film Studios has also made it a perfect place to shoot for movies like the Hammer Horror films, James Bond movies, and Sleepy Hollow.
The park is popular with runners, dog walkers, mountain bikers, and for fishing in the adjacent lake.

4 Privet Drive - 12 Picket Post Close

While No. 4 Privet Drive, the address of Harry's sniveling aunt and uncle, is fictional, the exterior of 12 Picket Post Close in Berkshire, England served as the set for the Dursley's home.
It's still a private residence and is not open to visitors.

That's all the famous location from the Harry Potter movies. Are you love it? I love it the most, readers. And I want go to all of that places! Lol. :)
